EEA2 self-sufficient bank statements

Post by hellrose » Thu Sep 22, 2011 10:20 am

Sorry if this seems like a silly question -
How recent do the bank statements need to be to prove that EU national is exercising treaty rights?

I am applying for RC. My husband is German and we've been living in UK for 5 months now. We have bank statements from 5-6 months ago and I'd rather not pay to get new statements sent if I don't have to.
Thanks in advance.

My advice would be to request the most recent bank statements. To demonstrate self sufficency you need to show money in the account and the usual rule for immigration applications is to send the last three months statements in support. Not sending them doesn't mean the application would be refused but it may delay an outcome as they could write to you and request statements at a later date.

So your German husband is not working and you are applying for a Residence Card on the basis that he is self-sufficient?

SELF SUFFICIENT

Post by nonspecifics » Thu Sep 22, 2011 5:55 pm

A self-sufficient got a letter from the UKBA demanding "all bank statements sent to a UK address for a five-year period".

Reading that literally means they were supposed to go around everyone in the UK collecting their bank statements covering five years.

I think UKBA meant all the self-sufficient's UK bank statements covering 5 years, so not ALL bank statements. :D
