Surrender Of Indian Passport Questions

Post by DSS82 » Sat Oct 01, 2011 1:24 pm

My mother used to have an Indian passport but now has an British one. She acquired British citizenship in 2003.

Since 2003 she has been travelling to India on her British passport and has not used her Indian passport since- it is now expired.

She needs to travel to India in the next four weeks on a Tourist visa.

Previously no-one has ever asked for a Surrender of Indian Passport certificate.

Does she need to apply for one for a Tourist Visa now? If so, why the sudden change in requirements?!

If we need to apply for a SC can we apply for it together with the Visa?

Thanks in advance.

She has to surrender her Indian PP first, if she travelled on it after acquiring British PP , then a fine will have to be paid as well. A SC may be required only if she wants an OCI or PIO.

However, that said she has already travelled on an Indian visa. She may thus be able to apply for another Indian visa without a SC.
