Confused, need help

Hey, i would really appreciate it if sombody here could shed some light on a few things ive been needing answered.

First, my story.. might come in handy for my situation.

Wont go in detail but, i have a girlfriend in canada, shes 19 and ive been with her 8 months now, we are at that point when we just want to be together, and im extremely serious of going over and living with her, ive taken steps of getting money and sorting passports and stuff so far, and its becoming quite hard, her parents wish to make me goto school there and have already said they would supply me with some means of housing, if not stay with them, and would agree to taking care of me.

Thats the gist of my story, im sure some of you get the idea.

im 16
living in UK
i have little education (but im not exactly lacking either)
(if you need any more specific info about me or my situation ask)

Now.. whats bothering me.

Passport is fine
Getting money is hard but ok
Visa.. i dont know where to start on this but theres a few things i need to know.
Apparently the visa costs a certain "fee" doesnt say any specific amount maybe sombody can put light on that.
How long does the process take? forms applications etc.
How long does it take to recieve the Visa after going through all the process.
Ive read its a requirement to have money to support yourself once in canada again, it doesnt say any specific amount, maybe sombody could tell me that too.
Is it a requirement to have a return plane ticket?
and what kind of forms and paperwork do i need?

If anything else i need to know comes up ill ask, if sombody could answer all these with quite specific (but understandable) info that would be great.

How? Have you lived together before or this is just a distant relationship? Please clarify.

What level are you? A level, GCSE? This would determine which level you would enter into college/university when you eventually get there!

Passport is fine

Are you a Brit passport holder? This will help if you are in travelling over to CND visa free if not you would need a visa

There are a lot of different migration and visa fees to go to CND. Which category are you applying for specifically? Are you going to CND as a student/Working holiday Maker/common law partner etc?

Depends on your circumstances and a lot of other factors. If accomodation is not a problem what about food, clothing, entertainment, college fees, sundries, travel and transportation, books etc You need to research cost of living in CND but you can ask your girl friend and her family this. Isn't it?

If a visitor, then yes. But any other category will depend. If you are migrating as a permanent resident then I don't think so but your statements are too vague and you need to ask specific questions and say exactly which category of visa you are applying for. That would answer a lot of your questions.

Again depends on the above and refer to www.cic.gc.ca for the list

passport is fine, as im getting it done currently, it will be a british passport.

one thing i forgot to ask which im REALLY hoping for...
is there ANY way to stay in canada while just visiting, im trying to get there as fast as possible now, and im hoping i could just get a single ticket, fly there and apply to stay while in canada insted of waiting a possible long time for the visa in UK.

her mum suggested i go for a student visa.

thanks for the trouble of you listing all the fees out for me, would be even more greatful if you could sum up the rough amount i should be expected

Unless your father is an Onasis type of person, you are in to pay a awful lot of money in tuition fees from the level at which you are now i.e. if you plan to go to school

I hope so. If one of your parents is a Brit citizen or you qualify for that then this is fine. But I will advise you to check since you have not stated that convincingly.

Yes. You can only stay there as a student in your situation and not anything else (you qualify to visit without a visa with your Brit passport though for a period of 6 months).

I am afraid you cannot travel as a visitor on a single entry ticket. You would be returned to the UK if you are not very lucky. No guarantees.

That is your best option since currently you do not qualify under any category than just being a visitor.

No one can tell you this exactly. This is very subjective. It depends on where you live in CND, your lifestyle, what you do there etc
If you have some money just take a trip when it is cheap to travel and find out first hand. You can travel in the month of November or later on in January - Air travel is very reasonable during these months.

Personal Advise if you would only take it:

I will say that, if you do not have enough money now, do not move to CND. Go back to school and earn yourself a descent degree or qualification. The advantage you have now is that, you are young and tution would be obviously cheaper for you in the UK than in Canada. I don't know how you want to fund your studies but anyway you are better off in the UK with your situation than rushing off to CND now.

Unless you plan to get married to your girl friend this year (which I think you are too young to do now ) there is no need of going to stay. If you have the funds to live there, because you would not be able to work without the right residency status, you would be one frausted 16 year old.
