Updates:
29/09 - The person who signed the applications, received a letter asking to confirm their signature. Hopefully it's not going to take ages now to get there....
21/10 - I have received other forms to fill in, stating in the covering letters that the forms were not correctly completed in Section 10. So, we had to fill in the new forms (we have asked someone else to complete Section 10) and these were received by IPS on 31/10
29/10- the new countersignatory received a letter to confirm the details

For me it was a very long waiting time, comparing with the naturalisation process that only took 5 weeks

Interim Updates
Date: 26 Sep 11: Had called 2 days after sending the application away to see if I could get my original passports back as I need to apply for another visa urgently. Called today (26th) to see if there was any movement on the request. Was told your documents should already be on the way as your interview letter has been sent already!!!. Asked if I could get the reference number and the girl said I'm not supposed to, but have you got a pen.... . Wouldn't give my wife's reference though as she wasn't present. 6 days to finish whatever checks they do and return the original documents is actually pretty sweet. Now I just hope I can get an appointment quickly.

interim update 1: i called on the 1/11/2011 to find out how far the application had gone and they told me they sent a details verification form to my countersignature. and that as soon as they recieve that then they'd proceed to the final stage to print
