Non Paid Internship

Post by Reshu » Tue Nov 01, 2011 5:22 pm

I have a non paid internship opportunity from one of the major design studio from London, for duration of about 4-6 months depending upon my choice. But my situation is that in India I am doing freelance projects and have not done any major big projects,in order to file tax. I am non tax payer in Inida, but I need to provide my financial documents to apply for the business visa. So is there any alternative document of my tax documents I can submit. Also please guide me what documents should I ask from my employer Design studio to provide me in order to apply for Visa.

Tier 2 offers no scope for sponsorship of an unpaid intern. Nor can I see any business visit category that would permit you to do this.

I don't see how it's possible within the immigration rules. I think you will have to pass on it. This is a common question from overseas students who hope to do some work-experience in the UK as part of their course. Unless it falls within the scope of the Tier 2 or Tier 5 approved schemes (and yours does not) then it's not possible.

The design studio offering the internship have agreed on paying me a basic compensation with in the UK as daily travelling allowance during the internship, though amount is not yet decided.

That's not really relevant. It still does not fall within the scope of Tier 2

Look at Tier 5 - there are schemes that may allow you to do this.

It would have to something be on the govt. approved list of organisations (organised exchange or international agreement) that can be found on UKBA site. Your company can't simply hire you. In short, there is no visa for your circumstances and you will have to pass on this offer.

Reshu

Have a look at this link:

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas ... -exchange/

There is a PDF of the sponsors. You can have a sponsor and do work experience with a different employer, eg BUNAC on the list.

I think you're likely not to be able to do this. Unpaid internships are just about legal for European nationals but the Government isn't going to give visas for non-EU people to come here and work in a supernumary job for no (or little) pay. The visa scheme is here to protect EU workers. Giving you a visa would not do that. Sorry.

Under the section Person undertaking specific, one-off training you may be able to apply.

May be the seniors in the forum can guide you further ..[/b]

but it clearly would be on-the-job training, which is not allowed on business visits.

The design studio I am applying agreed to provide me with the sponsorship and now I need to tell them about the documents they need to send which can assist me in getting visa. So please guide me with the category of visa and the documents needed from the design studio.

Tier 2? If so; Good luck. The job has to be degree level and paid over £40,000!

Reshu - what category are you planning on applying under? You have already been advised that there is no category that your internship fits under.
