EEA Family Permit-Passport copy attestation

Hi,

I am going to apply EEA family permit as a non EEA family member (Husband) of EEA national exercising treaty rights in UK as a student and I am apply here from Dubai. There are few questions I have..kindly comment:

1. Do I need to attest my wife & daughter's passport copy from their country embassy in UAE. My wife n daughter are Latvian Nationals and there is NO embassy of Latvia here in Dubai because all Latvian visas are dealt by German Embassy in Dubai and I phoned them to confirm whether they do any attestation on behalf of Latvian Embassy and they said NO. I sent an email to UK embassy in Abu Dhabi and they replied by saying NO i dont need to attest but at the same time in reply there was a link which I accessed and that link says u do need to attest the passport copy of your sponsor from there embassy in country of application...Its so confusing..Following is the link of HO which Abu Dhabi UK embassy also sent me..

So what am I suppose to do regarding passport copies?

2. In vaf5 form, there is a question about duration of EEA family permit and entry exit dates. I know EEA Family permit is issued for maximum 6 months but my intentions are to rejoin my family on permanent basis as my wife is not willing to settle in Dubai because she will lose exercising her treaty rights and weather here is too hot which she didnt like during her visit. So what dates shall I put down? from entry date to six months? and duration?...Kindly advise..

Adnan, the UKBA website does imply that one needs to have passport copy endorsed. I did this because I was picking up my passport from my embassy and did not want to have to go back again. I'd asked the question of the UKBA, but it took three weeks for them to respond by which time I had the attested copy. They told me that I did not need to have this done.

Your entry date will dictate the day that the family permit commences (you can postpone its start by three months). Your exit date is not relevant, but if you feel uncomfortable with this, state that you plan to live with your wife and child in the UK for the foreseeable future.

I would like to thank everyone in this forum to guide me thro for an EEA family permit. I got EEA family permit today from Dubai and I wil be travelling probably in January. Next thing would be EEA residence card, and if needed, I will ask for more information once I am in the UK.

How long did your application for the EEA FP take? What did you end up submitting?

I submitted my application on 20th November 2011 and I got it back yesterday on 29th November 2011. It took 6 working days excluding the day of submission and day of collection. It was quick . I applied from January but they have given me permit from this month, but its fine. Thanks alot everyone
