Can a non-married partner work as well?

Post by timmi183 » Thu Nov 10, 2011 9:11 pm

My partner's company will be sponsoring him for a Tier 2 visa in the coming months. We are are an unmarried gay couple. Though we've been together for 6 years , the only "proof" of our relationship is our lease.

Do we need to be married (New York state, where we live, recognizes gay marriage while I don't believe the UK does) or just registered as domestic partners (which New York City also offers) prior to him getting his Visa?

Do I have to wait for him to secure his before I can apply for mine?

Many thanks in advance!

US terminology = gay marriage; UK terminology = civil partnership.

If you cannot provide any other evidences of cohabitation for at least 2 years preceding the (dependant) application, then you should enter into civil partnership to enable you to apply as a dependant.

It is your choice whether to apply together or later.
