Query regarding job change

Post by goodsrk » Sat Nov 12, 2011 10:41 pm

Hello Everyone,

I work for an Indian IT giant and I'm here in Germany for an assignment for 6 months. I have a work permit valid till 2014. I'm liking it here and want to extend my stay probably by switching job. But my work permit mentions the organization I work for and I do not know if the WP will still be valid if I quit my parent company.

Plzz help....

The work permit authorises you to work for the named sponsor. To switch / change jobs and remain in Germany, you will need a new work permit sponsored by a new employer.

So I need to apply for jobs. Then if I get one, the employer has to issue an work permit for me. Is that how it works?

Well not quite! The new employer has to apply for a work permit for you, and only if that is granted can you start work for them.

That is, it is not totally down to the new employer whether the work permit is issued.
