2nd Step--Getting a Visa

I was recently approved for the HSMP, but I am now very confused about getting a Visa. I am a US citizen currently living in the US. Do I fill out Visa form VAF1? If so, does having an approved HSMP letter mean that I have a Work Permit? If so, is the work permit number listed on the approval letter? The Visa application seems to require that I detail my employment plans, but I don't have a job in the UK yet--that was the whole point of going through the HSMP. Is there anyone who has been through the process who can help?
