Internship abroad as LPR

Hi there!

I got the GC with DV2010 in the middle of my studies in Germany. So I went and continued my studies at a partner university in the US from 07/2010 - 06/2011.

In 06/2011 I returned to Germany to finish my studies at my home university. To finish these up it will take until 01/2012.

Then in January, I'd like to return to the US. However, I'd also like to do a 6-month internship in Mexico, before I settle in the US. But I don't want to loose my LPR status.

I did do my taxes, have a bank account, a valid drivers license, an address with friends in the US etc. I could also get a letter stating the internship as temporary.

So I could travel to the US, stay for a week or two, then go to Mexico, do the internship, then go back to the US.
But do you think that'll be enough proof to show that I don't abandon my LPR?

Hi. In principle, the activities you describe should not lead to abandonment of LPR status. However, it might be a good idea before you start your internship in Mexico, to obtain a re-entry permit in the US.
