Settlement visa with a overdraft

Please reply if you know of any success stories with an existing overdraft in the sponsors account. I am a british citizen and have been together with my fiance for 1 year and a half and we are in the process of getting all the documentations for VAF2 application for Fiance visa. He is currently a resident working in Italy, but is a Liberian citizen.
I have been reading and study this site over the last months and have tried to resolve my finances, but I am not sure of a straight forward way out. I was training to be a teacher up until January, before that I was studying at uni and since then have been working as a Primary school teacher in London. My current salary is £26,000 pa, and my overdraft is £1200, so I will be paying it off over next six months.
Would love to hear from anyone who has a heard of a sucessful application where the sponsor has a good salary but an existing overdraft.

I'm certainly not an expert on these matters but I'd be really surprised if they held a £1200 overdraft against you. You have a good salary and I'd have thought as long as you can show you can support your family well you would be ok. Credit cards, student loans, mortgages, overdrafts are just part of life for most people, and your mentioned debt appears very manageable.

I concur with the comment from Johnson333, I would be surprised if an overdraft of £1200 caused a problem. Do ensure that the documentation supplied with your fiance's application includes the sort of monthly Budget you have outlined.

Given that he is legally resident in Italy, the application on form VAF2 can be made in Rome rather than back in Liberia (or rather in Sierra Leone, where applications from Liberians are processed).

Rome does not exactly get overwhelmed with applications for Settlement Visas. In the latest year for which figures are available they approved 65 and rejected 4. The record for Freetown, Sierra Leone, is rather different ... 267 approved and 364 rejected. So clearly far better to apply in Rome.

I getting as much evidence as possible just now including outlines of dates and venues for wedding receptions, lists and invites, as it is a fiancee visa.

The ECO's do frown at bank statements that do show overdrawn balances irrespective of the salary earned. They have ready-made refusal letters for that. Your financial circumstances show that you are owing money on your current account. If you owed a loan of £1200 thats a different case, but it shows that when ever you get paid £1700 a month (which is the average earnings of salary of £26,000 p.a) you only have access to £500 of your own money.Thats their official line of argument.

I must confess, I have invited my mother-in-law before to UK with an overdrawn account balance but I have also had another visa application turned down by the ECO and on Appeal for the same reasons.

Most people have become wiser and now get loans and transfer to their Savings account and print out the statement to back up their visa applications.

This is what I am planning to do. If I get a loan now, so that my last bank statement will show that I am in credit, but the other 5 will still be showing the overdraft. Do you think that will suffice, to show I am no longer in debt. That is all I can think of doing now,
