Merging of PIO + OCI

Post by whiskywhisky » Fri Dec 02, 2011 12:11 pm

Hi All

I live in the UK, me and my wife are British nationals. (My wife was brought up in India and has surrendered her Indian nationality and my parents were born in India and have Britsh nationality).

Does anyone have any info on the proposed (as stated by Indian PM) combining of the OCI and PIO? I am not in a deperate rush but would like to apply for PIO (probably will not get an OCI), just thinking should I wait for this merger? or will this take many years or not at all?

Secondly if anyone has any info, I have often heard that British nationals with PIO or OCI do not recieve the same level of help from the UK Consulate in Delhi as British National without a PIO or OCI, any know if this is correct? or just a nasty rumour?

Thanks

No one here can tell you when or how soon the Indian Citizenship Act will be amended to incorporate the changes.
Life isn't fair, but you can be!

Ok thanks - so it is fair to say if someone is thinking about applying for a PIO or OCI they should not even think about the proposed changes as there is no timeframe?

Anyone got any ideas on the 2nd part of my query?

Thanks

Rumour. I have not come across any such instance. Also if you call the UK Consulate in India, you are not asked and even need to mention if you have an OCI or not.
