What does Tourist Visa look like?

I am unfamiliar with Tourist Visa as we have went down the EEA route. But my friend has applied for Tourist Visa ( from Turkey to UK) for 3 wks over the Xmas period - he got Passport back today with a blue stamp in it - as i am unable to talk to him properly or see him until this evening, i am unsure if he has been successful or not.

Would some one be able to enlighten me
