Immigration at heathrow after ILR

Post by peppekalle » Mon Dec 05, 2011 8:53 am

In a few weeks time i will be going home. What questions will i be asked by immigration officers after arrival in heathrow?

How shall i respond when they ask me how i got my ILR?Can i just say rule immigration rule276b or shall i say i won my appeal against removal.

Are they likely to ask me about my past immigration history?Do i have to answer questions about my past immigration history or can i just tell them to refer to their computer?

I got my ILR in October this year on 10 years long residency basis. I went to my country in November due to sudden demise of my father. I stayed abroad for 10 days, on my way back they asked my the following questions:

For how long I stayed abroad?

Why I went and why I'm back so soon?

On what basis I was given ILR?

How I managed to spend 10 years in the UK? (It was 5 years student and 5 years on student's dependant basis)

Which university I attended when I was on student visa?

Which degree I read at the university?

Where's my wife (who's now on spouse visa) and why isn't she with me?

What do I do for living?

I answered all the questions, based on the actual facts, confidently and then the officer stamped my passport and granted me the entry.

Hope this is useful.
