College threatening to remove me from UK for fees not paid!

Post by studentinuk » Sat Dec 10, 2011 4:04 pm

Hi all!

I am a full time student in UK since 2009. I am studying ACA+MBA dual programme at a private college located in Birmingham UK. My college is a highly trusted sponsor under UKBA. I got my visa extended last year under tier 4. I had paid full fees for 9 ACCA papers. My visa is valid till June next year. Now for the past 2 semesters I had to do resits of ACCA papers and the college asked me to pay additional fees for the resit papers and said it cannot be adjusted again fees already paid. Last semester I reluctantly shelled out 1200 pounds. This semester I again had to do resit and had to pay for 2 acca papers with 1300 pounds. I told them I didnt have the money and then they said they wont allow me to attend semester and they will report me to UKBA. I got scared and agreed to the resit but requested them to split amount so I can pay later. They asked me to pay half before semester began and balance by October 31. I paid the first installment and attended college. Unfortunately I couldnt pay the balance amount and ever since due date passed I received a few emails from them saying I need to pay up or they will remove me. I tried talking to the college and requested them to give me more time but all fell in deaf ears. The latest is I have received an email from them asking me to pay by 21st december failing which they will cancel my sponsorship and inform UKBA of this and it seems once they do that I can no longer live in UK after that.

I wish to know can this college remove me from UK for failing to pay around 750 pounds?
I paid for 9 papers last year. 4 papers of it [all p level] are yet to be attended by me and the fees total upto around 2500 pounds. It seems as I have violated the contract of paying resit fees this money will not be returned. I was also eligible for a free MBA course worth 7000 pounds which also I will no longer be eligible for.

I want to know if any of you have had a similar experience and if yes how did you handle it?

Please give some replies and tell me what are my options. I am feeling very scared due to all of this!

Your College cannot legally remove you from the UK as it is the responsibility of HO's UKBA to do so. However, your College reserves the right to terminate your education with them. In that regard, there is very little you could do as you have not paid the money expected of you. So should they go ahead to de-enrol you from their course, you're automatically illegal in the UK. And they can report your status to the UKBA, as all Colleges and Universities in the UK are required to do.

The best advise would be to repair the relationship with your College. Ask for a meeting with the relevant student welfare department of your College for help. If not, am afraid the situation could get worst.

Did you read the Terms and conditions of your college? If it says you must pay the resit fees and you have agreed to those small print without making further checks then you are bound to pay your fees.

and also try to study hard and clear the papers :)
In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on :)
