Does savings have an effect of Child Benifit and Tax Credits

Dear all,

Me and my family are on ILR since september 2010.
I have been claiming child benifits since I got the ILR.
I applied for tax credits but I dont get any.

My query is, our savings in the bank is greater than £16000.
Can I still claim child benifits? Or am I making a mistake due to the fact that my savings are greater than £16000.

child benefit is not currently means tested, so your savings are irrelevent.
