Applying for Work Permit + LTR

Post by newborn » Fri Oct 06, 2006 10:02 pm

Hello people,

I'm a Malaysian on an already expired visa. 6 months before it expired, I had applied for a BOC passport following an advise from a friend of mine who works in an immigration consultancy firm. When I eventually obtained my BOC passport, I only had one month to get a job & submit my BOC for LTR (before my visa expires). However my job search stretched to nearly 4 - 5 months. During these times, I was assured by my friend that it was fine and that I could then submit the SET(O) form when I'm offered a job. However, information on the UK Home Office website tells a different story(& the fact that I am subjected to control under immigration act 1971 worries me). I have now managed to find a company who is willing to apply for a work permit but given my current situation I'm not sure how to go about it.

It's not clear why you did this. Did you expect to get the right to live in the UK from your BOC passport?

If you check Penanglad's older postings, JAJ, you will see a reference to a (now redundant) procedure (not in the Rules, I think) whereby BOCs with work permits were given ILR on arrival. Newborn's friend's advice may be a misapplication of that...
