Can I stay longer than I told to the immigration officer

Post by Whitefruit » Wed Jan 04, 2012 8:39 pm

I hold a PSW visa currently which is valid until Jan of 2013. I went back half year ago for a better job position and came back December of 2011. I was asked whats my entry purpose When I was entering uk immigration, and To be honest ,I said I am just going to visit friends and for Xmas shopping. The officer said it's not allowed to use my PSW visa to do visiting and ask all my trip and personal details. I told him I wil go home around Feb etc. The whole process took nearly ten mins. He let me in at the end but he gave me a warning, and he said nothing is changed on the visa at this time.i was offered a job When I talked to one of my friend these days. So I am thinking I may quit my job in my home and join the new one.I don't have to back home to quit cos I can just ring them. The thing is I am not sure if I have to leave uk as the time I told the officer, that was my real plan at that moment, but things change. It wil be very grateful if anyone knows what should I do is best. Thanks ![/b]

Apparently, if you were not admitted as a visitor, then you still hold PSW status until its expiry or curtailment.

Thank u for the reply, I am worry if I don't do what I said to him, then next time when I re-entry , wil it be ok? Some people said they hav right to not let me in next time cos I already got bad record :(

PSW visa is not a visitation visa, it is meant to allow you to seek work. You should have told him you came for prospective interviews, or just to look for work.

Nonetheless, you say you already have a job offer now? So You should be fine, as long as next time you have to cross the border you have proof of work, e.g. payslips obtained from working in the UK.

You do not have a bad record.
