How long do I have?

Post by ambchad » Mon Jan 09, 2012 11:22 pm

I have recently married a UK national, and the visas for myself and my daughter were approved, but there is no other paperwork, so how long do I have before I should travel to the UK? Is there a 30 or 90 day period in which I have to enter? please any help will be appreciated. Sorry my daughter and myself are both U.S. nationals, I dont know if it makes a difference?

If you and your daughter have "Settlement Spouse" and "Settlement Dependant" visas, they should be valid for 27 months from the date of issue - so just look at the visas. You can travel to the UK any time before the visa expires.

In practice you would be advised to travel within three months of issue, because the qualifying period for Indefinite Leave to Remain is 2 years in the UK, that's why they give you 2 years + 3 months now.

If the above does not apply you'd better explain what it says on your visas.
