NI Number Problems

Post by MarioSA » Mon Oct 09, 2006 10:20 am

Guys, I need some advice regarding my National Insurance Number. When I first arrived in UK, I worked on a temporary number for about two years. I then applied for a work permit in 2002. I had trouble getting through on the phone to apply for my NI number. An acquaintance at the time, said he knew of a guy that could fast track an NI number for a fee. I paid £250 for him to fast track my NI number. Last year I went to a lady I knew at the Inland Revenue to query why I kept receiving letters that showed a temporary number and found out that my NI number was registered to somebody else. I realise then and there I had the wool pulled over my eyes. I’m sick with worry and not sure how to rectify the situation without jeopardising my status in the country. Any advise guys?

Is your status in the United Kingdom lawful? If so, why not apply now for a proper NI number?

My status is lawful but won't this effect me negatively by having a fake NI?

Not applying for a real one now that you know the one you have is not genuine will have a far greater impact than simply leaving things as they are.
