Can I get married and still stay on my PSW visa

Post by emilysherd » Sun Jan 15, 2012 11:20 pm

Hi all,

I'm here on a PSW visa which expires in Jan 2013, at which point I am moving back to the US. My fiance and I want to get married in the UK, but not so I can stay here longer.

I understand that I need to register the intent to marry and etc, but I was just wondering if I can stay on my PSW visa for the 6 months remaining on it, even after getting married. Since I'm not intending to stay in the UK, I don't want to waste time and money changing to a spouse visa, and don't need settlement or permanent leave to remain.

I couldn't find anything that said I shouldn't get married on PSW, so I assume that's okay.

Help appreciated!
Emily

Yes. There's no requirement for you to switch after marriage, if you're not planning on remaining after your leave expires.
