Going late for PEO appointment

Post by theroyale » Mon Jan 16, 2012 1:43 pm

My appointment is at 9.30 am on wednesday. There is a chance my accountants may not have the letter ready by this evening (to reach me by next-day delivery tomorrow). The next best option is to send it to reach me by 9AM guaranteed delivery on wednesday. In which case I would be a couple of hours late for my 9.30AM appointment.

I understand that the appointment at PEO is not an 'appointment' in the strictest sense of the word, more a way of streamlining people and then assigning them tokens. Would I be ok to enter at 11AM?

Anyone can correct me if I am wrong, but since they offer specific timeslots (you book a timeslot, not just a day), this is the same as saying "I booked my appointment for Wednesday, would it be okay to go on Thursday".

I would really try whatever possible to get the document sooner and ensure that I arrive on time. I would seriously look at Royal Mail's Sameday delivery option (used it once before and I was impressed - although the distance wasn't that great, I had the item leave Milton Keynes by 15:30 and had it in my hands by 18:30 in London). It was really pricey though, but if I was in the same circumstance, I would pay whatever it would take to have it done.

Thanks mulderpf. My accountant has indeed not posted them out today. I've looked at sameday, but for my distance the cost is approx £300. I have now decided (no choice really!) to go out to the accountant's office (London - Manchester) and pick up the documents tomorrow.

No offence against your accountant/firm, but why did they leave it until the last minute and say they haven't posted it yet?

In a way, they are providing professional services and would expect them to be more helpful - if enough notice was given well in advance that you need this letter.

Anyway, good luck with the application.

Cheers,
Jay

Agree. My only consolation against jumping to a conclusions about them is that they have been extremely helpful in the 18 months I have been with them. But this one - the big one - has been a bit of a mess.

not sure whether my below solution will help or not but it helped me.

Ask them to post by Next Day Special Delivery (9AM guranteed). It will cost something 10-15 GBP (check Royal Mail for exact cost).

Lookout for your nearest Royal Mail Delivery Office. It is not the normal Royal Mail office and no one will answer if you call.
Go there and ask what is the SLA for them for your address and tell them that you need to get a Special Delivery.

They usually receive the Special Delivery packets at around 3 AM and start distributing around 6-7 AM. So your only chance would be to be there at Post Office at 5-6 AM and request them to hand it over. Don't forget to take a ID proof with address details.

THIS IS A VERY HIGH RISK but it worked for me.
I was due to travel to Paris and awaited my passport from France Embassy.
My flight was at 10 AM and the passport dispatched by embassy was just on the evening of day before of my flight. The only best thing was that it was Special Delivery. I went to Post Office on the day of dispatch and they told me come in tomorrow at 6 AM.
I was there at agreed time and I got my Passport and enjoyed my Paris Trip without any tension there on.

So try it out. But it is High Risk.
