British citizenship after ILR

Post by kishorek » Tue Feb 07, 2012 10:58 am

Dear All,
I got my ILR last year August and planning to apply for the British Passport this august. I am actually fall within the home office criteria like (not more that 450 days outside Uk in the last 5 years and sixth year not more than 90 days outside UK) is this applicable for the dependants?

Can anybody give me a correct solution.

Thanks. K

You can't apply for a British passport without being a British citizen before. The correct steps are to apply for British Citizenship in August and then (if you wish) to apply for a passport.

Applications are dealt individually so all applicants must meet the requirements (although there is a reduced fee if applying together).

British citizenship after ILR

Dear Jambo

Thank you for your information but can I get one clarification.

When we were applying for the ILR the immigration doesn't considered the holiday period for my wife and kid but you are telling that each applicant should meet the requirements for the british citizenship. I am bit confused.

Can you please clarify me.

Thanks
K

There are different requirements for settlement (ILR) and naturalisation. You might meet one but not the other.

For example - for naturalisation any absence counts. Even work related. Another example: for naturalisation, your earnings are not relevant.

The absences requirement only applies to adults. Not children.
