Spouse visa and criminal convictions

Post by amazon » Wed Feb 08, 2012 1:13 am

I have a latin american boyfriend and I am thinking ahead to consider my options. He lived in Italy briefly and was convicted of shoplifting. If I marry him will this conviction prevent him from getting a spouse visa or ILR?

In the short term will he be unable to get a visitor visa or fiance visa too?

What kind of criminal checks do they carry out? I am not suggesting that this is omitted from the application but I would like to know what they do about finding out about an applicants background.
