Schengen Visa to Germany, do my children also need a visa?

Hi

I'm a British citizen and my wife is Turkish, here in the UK on a spouses visa and has not yet got ILR.

The scenario is that my wife and children (children born in the UK) wish to visit her sister/aunt on a family visit to Germany. I think I understand that my wife will need a schengen visa for the visit but do my children also need to apply (born in the UK), the application form says that all children under 18 must apply on a seperate application form, does this only apply if they are not EU or British nationals?

I will not be travelling with them due to work commitments.

I assume your children are British.

If you are not travelling with your wife she needs a visa, assuming your children are British, they would not need a visa.

Yes kids are british, I sort of assumed your answer previous to my post but just wanted to get it clarified, all this immigration stuff makes my head go round in circles.

By the way: If your wife applies for the visa mentioning that she´ll travel without you, they´ll charge her.

She could try to say that yee are planning to travel together. In this case the visa would be free of charge. Drawback: They might tell her that, in this case, she >>won´t need a visa<<.

Once the visa is issued, there´s no difference: The visa doesn´t say sthg like "only valid if travelling with spouse" or similar. It´s always "just" a "Type C" visa.

My approach always was: Ring embassy, asking for a visa in spite of travelling together. If they tell you "in this case you don´t need one" try saying "the other day we had trouble travelling like that (airline was about to refuse you boarding!)". If they still refuse, just call the next day saying your plans changed, she´s now travelling alone.

Always worked for me: For all Schengen-visas we applied for, we never paid a penny (or cent)
