days out qualifying for ILR under Work Permit

Dear all,

On behalf of a friend I am just asking the following question and wondering if any one had a similar experience or more knowledge on the subject would please help,

" Currently under Work Permit from last 5 years along with there is a absence out of the UK for about 2.5 years with continuous UK based pay and tax. On the whole 5 years has been employed with the same employer but was working remotely from outside UK however always get paid in pounds and all pay slips confirms the regular tax paid. Therefore would it be considered as qualified for ILR or we need to do an extension of WP (Tier 2) and then wait for remaining time to be qualified."
