Bulgarian - Unmarried Partner

Post by csm » Sat Oct 28, 2006 8:52 pm

Hi Everyone,

I hope someone can help me with the following, as I am confused.

I am a British Citizen and I curently live with my unmarried partner in Bulgaria, and have done for the last 2 1/2 years.

We intend to move to the UK in April.

I note from the British Embassy Website, as current regulations stand as long as we prove that we have been together for 2 years, access will be granted for 2 years with the right to work.

Does anyone know how this situation will change when Bulgaira enter the EU and in light of the restrictions announced by Mr Reid.

Many thanks for any advice in advance.

You should probably forget the fact Bulgaria is due to enter the EU and just apply for a partner visa under normal UK rules.

Why? Because under EEA rules, the time to get permanent residence is 5 years, whereas under the Immigration Rules is 2 years (or immediate, in some cases).

Permanent Residence is a must before one can apply for British citizenship by naturalisation.
