Funds maintenance - multiple bank accounts

Post by samindaksm » Tue Feb 21, 2012 3:57 pm

hi all,

I was maintaining funds in my barclays account for my PSW visa. But unexpectedly Barclays sent me a letter on 05th of January that they are going to close down my account by 20th of January and asking me to arrange alternative account. I contacted barclays head office and they said, the reason for their decision to close my account is, the way I've been maintaining this account doesn't meet their account criteria. They said, that's all they can give as the reason and no further explanations could be given. I made a complain against this and after few days I got the same decision as their final decision and had sent me the contact details of financial ombudsman for me to contact them and if I'm not happy with their final decision. And that's all with Barclays. I have all the letters they sent to me during this time.
Then what I did is, since barclays said that they are going to close my account on 20th of January, I had another account with Santander and I deposited another £850 in Santander account on 16th of January (4 days before barclays closes my account ). Then on 20th of January I withdrew all the money I had deposited in Barclays. [from 16th of January to 20th of January, I had more than £800 deposited in both accounts] And now I'm maintaining funds with Santander from 16th of January and my funds are going to be enough matured by the 02nd of March (Including about 40 days my funds maintaining in Barclays account).

1) Will showing funds in two accounts be a problem for my PSW visa application ? Is it allowed ?

2) Do I need to send the details and documents (sent from Barclays) along with my visa application to prove the reason why I had to maintain funds in two accounts ?

Thanks in advance for any advices.

shouldn't be a problem as far as the bank accounts are under your name. i think you can use combination of any kind of accounts. the main thing is to show that you had access to this fund for 90 days. btw there is no harm to add a cover letter and explain the situation with attached barclays documents. good luck

Hi, I managed to get a statment from Barclays for the dates I maintained funds with them. Also they stamped the same, but the statement was printed in a plain A4 paper, not on a barclays letter head which comes with thier logo. I took this statement since my funds maintainence period is going to be from 29/11/2011 to 29/02/2012 which are not usuall month end statement dates. And one more things, there is a warning message called (warning - account closed) on the top of those printed statements. Will this be an issue? But I have the original statements Barclays sent to me during these period. Will it be a good idea to send them as well seperately for their concern? And those statement period is from 29/11/2011 to 16/01/2012. For the rest, I'm going to give the statements from Santander. (From 16/01/2012 to 29/02/2012). Any advice please...
