Got an ILR in the UK-wanting to move to Spain and work ther

Post by caguaedson » Sat Nov 04, 2006 10:43 pm

hello,

I am a not-EU passport holder (Mexico), i got the ILR residence permit for the UK.

My question is the following:

Can i work in Spain? or anywhere else in the EU holding this residence permit?
or Am I just allowed to work here in the UK?

Cheers

No, sorry. Not only is your ILR not accepted in Spain, but if you did leave the UK you would be liable to lose your ILR.

If you become naturalised British you will then be able to live/work in Spain. But unless you're married to a British citizen, you need to plan to remain resident in the UK - you can change your mind after being sworn in as a British citizen, not before.

But look on the bright side, you have a year or less left before you can apply for naturalisation. So not long to go before you can move to Spain.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

yeah.. this borders thing is not natural, i am a little bit of a dreamer and i believe in equality, one day this shit will change.
If the market is open, the borders should be open too.. everything for everyone.. it is not just about money, it is about people..

cheers...

Sadly the borders are there for law abiding folks the criminals dont get deterred by them anyway!!

The EU is currently incorporating a Directive which allows its Non EU ILR holders to move and settle in 21 other countries of the EU.

Obviously UK has opted out of this agreement!!
Otherwsie they would allow you to move to Spain as its reciprocal generally.
