UK Postgraduate Diploam, can I change visa in UK?

Post by wpuk2 » Fri Mar 17, 2006 10:03 pm

Now I just find a job, and already got the in-country WP for 5 years.

But I just got a postgraduate diploma in UK(2005), I'm not sure if I can switch my visa from 'student visa' to 'work visa' in UK????

Thanks!!
Tom

You wrote you got the in-country WP for 5 years. It means you have already changed from Student visa to WP. SO, where is the problem ??

Once you finish your study in the UK on student Visa you could defenitely switch it to WP.

But the Home Officer said I havn't get an UK degree, so I can't switch my visa in UK, I must go back to my Home Country to apply the out-country WP.

In my opinion, she didn't quite understand the different of "degree level" and "degree".

I think my Graduate Diploma should be considered as a "degree level qualification". But I'm not sure about it, I need evidence to proof it.

Hi, I don't need apply WP again, but I need switch my visa from student visa to work visa by using the WP.

However, only the degree level qualifition student can switch their visa in country.

I still do not quite understand with your statement. Is WP stand for work permit ?

Student visa is not Work Permit. You can not work in the permanenet base job using your student Visa. Also, it is quite unusual that someone get student visa for 5 years. I never see/read or heard this case ?.

I think what the OP means is that he has got the WP but HO told him he can apply for FLR only from his home country

Thank you for clarification, I though you mean WP is that work permit Visa in this case FLR.

Post Graduate diploma is defenitely not degree. Use search facility in this forum. There are already a lot of case about this. You also know that the different between PG diploma and Masters degree is that in PG diploma you do not need to write a thesis. But if you are not conviced you could ask NARIC to assess it.

Hi Pantaiema,

Thank you for reply! I got the following links to show the "Graduate Diploma" is equal to "a degree LEVEL qualification". Although we know it's defenitely not a degree.

The reason why I'm asking is: I want to switch my visa in-country from student visa to work visa. It required:"Student who has successfully obtained a degree level qualification." That's why I want to know if the Graduate Diploma is a degree LEVEL qualification.

I'm not sure if the NARIC can also confirm a UK certificate??? I through it can only confirm the oversea certificate.

Thanks a lot!! Please reply.
