Civil liberties and immigrants

Post by Hernancortes » Tue Nov 21, 2006 1:32 pm

I'm starting to get frightened of nu labour's increasingly authoritarian legislation. Did anybody watch Henry Porter's programme on More4 last night?
It frightened the life out of me. Anyway, ID cards will first become compulsory for ALL non EU citizens from 2008. The database will contain a lot of information about: residence status; first time entered the UK; when leave to remain expires et al. This database and ID card is meant to prevent illegal working, terrorism, benefit fraud, prevent NHS tourism etc.

There's internment, detention of asylum seekers including children, dodgy NHS database which the security services foreign governments and commercial companies can access and various other things.

I have already advised many of my relatives to avoid coming to this country. It is becoming immigrant unfriendly, it is expensive, and education is cheaper in many other countries e.g. Australia, Canada.
I will get out before 1984 comes to town. What do you guys think?
