Is the Work Permit tied to your passport?

Post by csaba » Mon Nov 20, 2006 6:45 pm

My passport expires on 2008. If I get a WP for, let's say, 5 years, then will it actually be legal for only 2 years? Will I have to return to my country after 2 years?

I'm just interested if I should renew my passport for another 10 years. It's a bit difficult to do that, so I'd rather not.

i got my initial WP for 2 years. my US passport that it was in expired 1/2 into that work permit. i renewed my US passport while in the UK. for that year I just travelled around with both passport- one that was valid and one that had the Valid WP.

when i renewed my WP, it was put into my new passport.

job done.

You dont have to leave the country, you can have the stamp transferred to your new passport.

The problem I'm talking about is I'm thinking about avoiding conscription. This means if I return to my country after 2007 I will get arrested. So somehow I have to live outside the country until I get another citizenship.
I'm guessing that if my passport expires in 2008 and I go to the embassy they would either arrest me or refuse to issue a new passport. So can I live and work in the UK for another 3-4 years without any passport?

Guess not cause they place the stamp in the passport :?

Or can I ask for asylum in 2008? I mean I'm not politically endangered or anything but I will be sent to prison if they deport me.
