Hi, I am a British citizen, my partner is an overstayer and we have been together for 3 1/2 years. We are getting married in the following weeks and have already given notice at the registry office. However, his solicitor wants his permission to send a letter informing the HO of the impending marriage shortly before the d-day.
I am worried about this and was wondering whether it is actually a good idea to inform the home office of the upcoming marriage ceremony (since we did not seem to have any problems at the registry office)? Is there any requirement that we don't know about that registrars should inform the HO of every foreign national that gets married in the UK? Furthermore, will informing the HO will create more problems on the wedding day (e.g. like them turning up and stopping the wedding etc.), if they do not already know of the wedding?
Thank you
