i am in EXACTLY the same boat. i asked my employer to write a letter re: salary. they did so without question.

they did NOT contact my employer to verify salary, or their letter.

Hi All,

When more and more number of people are expressing their anger on the UK goverment, and advising people who are not yet landed in the UK; to think twice before applying for HSMP, is there any compelling reason why you want to switch from the WP to HSMP?
Is there any specific reason?

as a HSMP, i have the flexability to change jobs. or if my company were to be sold & i was made redundant, i'm not stuck.

Prince,

If you have only 10 months to ILR as a WP holder... your case is kind of special and I will try to underline why I say this before giving my advice

1 - If there is guarantee that your employer will still be active and you will still be in active employment with them over these last 10 months, I will say... Stay on WP.... but we all know that there is no surety with employers

2 - If there is no guarantee (as i suppose the case will be), its dicey cos you can simply change to HSMP and still continue working with the same employer and after the 10 months, you will have got all you need to get ILR and can simply go for ILR.

In any case, looking at all this, and the time frames, I will suggest you switch to HSMP (just to safeguard your future) as one never knows what the future holds.

Time frame
You apply for HSMP in January 2007 and get the approval within the month. Since you have this safety now, you can hold out as long as possible before getting it.

You can apply for leave to remain as HSMP anytime between then and six months and get the initial stamp of 2 years (i believe) and then down the line.... say December 2007, you go for your ILR.

However, the big issue here is you will spend more this way, but then its worth it in gold as your safety in this country is not one to joke with
