Does anyone remember that scene from Shawshank Redemption where Tim Robbins comes out of the 1 mile sewerage pipe and is standing in the rain ? I feel exactly the same.
My HSMP was approved today. Getting freedom should'nt have been so difficult. I had to go through fire to get this piece of paper.
Due to the atrocious red tape rules in this country, a person who is already in working here is still unable to transfer his/her workpermit with ease. Most companies tend to exploit your position as they know you cannot move away easily. A trend which is on the increase especially since outsourcing has become the norm. Organisations continue to de-skill you, all the while moving critical business tasks and capabilities to third parties. I do agree with the fact that costs savings are very important, but focusing on the career development of employees is a company responsibility as well. I've been with my company for ages, but I wouldn't have hesitated for a second to leave if I had the power to do so. They have seriously de-skilled me, I have become intitutionalised, I have lost all my confidene, am gravely ill with all the depression I have faced over the years, and now that I can finally leave, I don't know what I am going to do in the outside world as I need to start from scratch all over again.
Sorry to whinge about all of this but I have a feeling that most of the in-country people here are facing something similar.
In the end, all I can say is: Fear can hold you prisoner. Hope can set you free. So anyone who has half a chance of succeeding, do apply for the programme. I did not believe my eyes this morning when I received my passports.
Any questions, do let me know. I will gladly share my experience with others.
