IELTS requirement and NARIC verification????

Post by uiqbal » Fri Jan 05, 2007 11:26 am

Hello,
I am a software engineer with 3+ years experience. My age is 26 years 5 months and I have done Bachelor in Science(Computer Science) 4 years program from top recognized institute in pakistan. I would like to know 2 things before applying for hsmp.

1. Do i need NARIC verification for my BS(CS) 4 year degree with 131 credit hours?
2. Do i need IELTS, is it a must? I have given TOEFL with score of 270/300, Would that do? If TOELF can do then do i have to verify it from NARIC.

Waiting in anticipation for earliest possible answers.

Regards,
Umar.

well you must have either:
1) IELTS, or
2) Bachelors degree on the NARIC database + letter stating it was taught in English.

NARIC website says they will not assess courses less than 200 hours ...so if yours is only 131 - you will have to get IELTS

Its 786 hourse actually. Do i need NARIC myself or HSMP ppl.

Hi shockboy2000,
One credit hour for one semester which is 16 weeks semester is equivalent to 16 hours. So 131 multiplied by 16= 786 hours. So this is way over 200 hourse.

My questions:
1. Now what do i have to do if i verify from NARIC the degree then i wouldn't required IELTS, right!

2. Don't the hsmp ppl check from NARIC themselves. So that i only submit degree and written letter from university saying medium of instruction was english.

3. Isn't the TOEFL score worth it with 270/300.

Regards,
Umar.

yes they apparently check NARIC database themselves.

so all you need is the seperate letter from university

but some people have been rejected because their University/degree was not on the database OR it was on the database and the database says it is not taught in English...so they failed even though they had seperate letter from the university saying it was in English

i decided to get NARIC done anyway - to be confident before applying.

Better play safe and get cert from NARIC...

Better to waste 30 odd pounds...other then 335 pounds...

Dont wana discourage, But have seen in past pak degrees r not taken as UK equivalent...

Go for NARIC

Hi,

Ok i have decided to do NARIC but after doing that i will not need IELTS, right!

As shockboy2000 said.
Its either
1. IELTS OR
2. NARIC with university english language

RIGHT!!

And What documents are to be sent to NARIC. Should i send the english language certificate from university as well.
How many photocopies and what amount of time it takes from sending to receiving back the copies, or i don't get the copies back. What is the mechanism?

I am also thinking about giving IELTS from AEO Pakistan, what category of IELTS to apply for and would AEO IELTS do??

Umar

the process has been covered pretty well in other threads, but the short version is:

1)register on their webpage to get reference num

2) write a covering letter expalining it is for HSMP. Also ask if they will confirm that they know it was taught in Engerlish

3) mail degree+academic transcript+covering letter photocopies OR fax them with it all. They will NOT mail documents back to u.

4) they will prob phone / mail you once they know it is all ok to assess it. So pay them

5) they will mail you letter only

hi shockboy2000 ...

I'm still confused with the naric system...

As u said :

"1)register on their webpage to get reference num "

i have already registered and got the id.

"2) write a covering letter expalining it is for HSMP. Also ask if they will confirm that they know it was taught in Engerlish "

i'm confused here.Ok i write a letter , what do i need to do with this.should i fax them with my id written on it and ask for my evalutation or do i need to pay them before i ask them ???
I have given my IELTS and still i have to go for naric ??? as far as i know degree evalutaion and ielts are two different things....help

"3) mail degree+academic transcript+covering letter photocopies OR fax them with it all. They will NOT mail documents back to u. "

i will fax all my degree+academic transcript+covering letter photocopies but do i need to pay them first or is it...they gonna evaluate it then call me and them i ask them to charge the money ????

""4) they will prob phone / mail you once they know it is all ok to assess it. So pay them ""

i have to fax all my degrees beforehand and then they gonna check it and then call me and then i pay them??? is it like this ....

you send in documents.

THey check if they have enough from you to do the assessment.

Then they will charge you.

THen they send you the letter with the results. They wont tell you what the result is before you pay.
