Me and my Wife are thinking about emmigrating to BG the problem is we cannot get any info on the rules and regs.. appart from the the normal visa section..
we would be setting up our own shop and possibly employing 2 Bulgarians for staff maybe more later on and Buying our own home No mortgages would be required ect.. so no drain on the state...
The problem is.. without any factual info on emmigration we have no Idea on how or where to start.

All help would be so greatful

Bulgaria is now in the EU so you may have the right to do what you plan provided you have British citizen passports (and are not solely connected with the Channel Islands or Isle of Man).

There are some transitional restrictions on free movement of labour for the first seven years, but they may not apply to self employment. You should check the relevant websites, including those of the EU.

If you are Bulgarian, you don't need a visa to come to the UK, a valid national ID card or passport will do it. You can come to the UK as you will, and you have a right to set up a business without anybodys permission (as I understand). You are, however, subject to temporary employment restrictions and would need to apply for a work permit through a standard route. You would have to have PLENTY of money even to start up with the simplest of businesses (just the costs of initial survival will run in thousands of pounds). You will not be eligible for a business loan until you build up credit history (and generally, business loans are more difficult to get than personal loans). You probaly don't need any 'websites' with immigration advice, rather you should look up websites concerning help with starting up as self-emplyed in the UK. If you can not find this yourself, you will most likely fail in whatever endavour you are planning.

Perhaps you should spend more time reading questions before you just post rubbish like what you've written above. If you bothered to read the original question you would realise that the OP wants to move from the UK to Bulgaria, not the other way around. Doh!
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

Hi brits,

perhaps it is better to connect with somebody already went through this, I heard about a lot of UK people moved to Bulgaria. To take this step it takes a lot more than just a "little info". It is one thing to move from a country like Bulgaria to UK or another EU country, and really different one to move other way round. You should be aware of all negative impacts this could cause to your way of living and your habbits. Are you considering a big city or a smaller one? Are you aware that the average income in a big city is less than 200 GBP? Consider it when you make your business plans. As a Bulgarian I would help you with any information as far as my knowledge is - ofcourse.

Regards,
Chefo

I am going to assume you are British and want to move to Bulgaria.

You may want to call or write to the Bulgarian embassy here and ask them what is required.

Then call the consular section of the UK embassy in Sofia. Ask them what they know. Their job is to work with British citizens with good questions!

Finally, if you still have questions, you might check with http://europa.eu.int/citizensrights/sig ... dex_en.htm the SignPost folks about what is required.

I have a feeling that if you contacted the British Embassy in Sofia, they would tell you to contact the Bulgarian embassy in London.

Considering that the UK has placed severe restrictions on Bulgarians working in the UK, don't be surprised if the Bulgarians have done the same for UK citizens working in Bulgaria. You shouldn't expect any kind of special treatment just because you are British.

The British embassy consular section in Germany publishes a whole series of information sheets for British citizens living or wanting to live in Germany. It seems they would rather give people good information up front than have to help stranded citizens later on.

In any case, at least in Germany they are quite willing to talk with you briefly if you call.

I would expect they are also helpful in Sofia.
