And remember that standard visa rules only apply to British passports where the nationality is shown as BRITISH CITIZEN.man1976 wrote:Hi,
Does anyone know Which countries can british passport holders visit without requiring a visa. or visa on arival.... Is there an official list
This is a fairly provocative statement which is bound to generate equally provocative response. I normally ignore statements like these but today being Sunday, I will have a go.Dawie wrote:As a general rule, most of the countries requiring British citizens to obtain visas are rather unsavoury countries and are probably not safe to visit anyway.
If you are talking about Iraq or Afghanistan who do require British citizens to apply for a visa, I don't disagree with you. But the "unsavoury and unsafe" tag does not apply to a large number of other countries.Dawie wrote:I don't think it's provocative at all. It's merely a statement of fact.
... so are visas which you can apply on arrival at the airport for certain countries! Even if you apply at the Embassy for some other countries, you are almost guaranteed a visa if you are a genuine visitor.Dawie wrote: ETA's for Australia can hardly be classed as a visa. They are a mere formality and can be bought online
Don't mean to be pedantic but a Finnish passport is the best one to travel on. Not only does it have the fewest visa requirements compared to any other country, the Finnish government don't go meddling into other people's foreign affairs, don't go starting pointless wars, and have no history of slavery/apartheid/football hooliganism or anything unsavoury, so there's no risk of a passport holder being beaten up, held hostage in a hijack or just being killed solely because of their nationality.Dawie wrote:As a general rule, most of the countries requiring British citizens to obtain visas are rather unsavoury countries and are probably not safe to visit anyway.
A British citizen passport is probably one of the best passports in the world to travel on: full access to the EU, visa free access to North and South America, most of Asia and Africa too.
Canadian and New Zealand passports don't give you work rights in the EU. Any candidate for the best passport in the world has to at least be an EU member.JAJ wrote:One of the best, or the best? I beg to differ Dawie. There is nothing like best if you consider all the factors that comes to play when considering everything that comes to play to make a country. I think best is really an individual's decision since their perception of best and reason for choosing that country's passport is dependent on their circumstances and what they really want from life.Dawie wrote:Canadian and New Zealand passports don't give you work rights in the EU. Finland the best? I'd put my money on a Spanish passport being the best. Full access to the EU plus it's very easy to work in Latin American countries with a Spanish passport.
