Social Welfare Problem - Naturalisation

I plan to apply for naturalisation over the next couple of weeks but I have a problem with the social welfare. I was told that I wasn't entitled for an entire year of claiming, and now they want me to them back that amount (around 7,000). Of course I appealed their decision and now I'm still waiting to hear from the appeals office since last March. However, ever since I have found a part-time job and I'm now working part-time, and I want to apply for citizenship because I meet the 5 year requirement. Would this problem affect my application?

I am not certain but I gather that Jobseeker's Benefit is what you have contributed to the system while working so there won't be such problem.

Jobseeker's Benefit is a weekly payment from the Department of Social Protection (DSP) to people who are out of work and are covered by social insurance (PRSI).

Other posters on this forum have indicated that they know of some people who were claiming welfare yet were granted Citizenship. (though there are people who are not affected by claiming welfare e.g. Refugees ) Some have also suggested that the current Government is not as strict as the previous one.
