Apply to cancel Tier 5 visa

Hi all,

I am currently on the Tier 5 youth mobility visa. Immigration rules state that I cannot switch to another category while I am on this visa.

However, let's say I have found a job in which the employer is happy to sponsor me for a Tier 2 visa, and they obviously prefer me to start the job on a Tier 2 visa rather than tier 5, since tier 5 only allows me to be there for a maximum 2 years.

In this case, is there any way I can apply to have my Tier 5 visa cancelled officially? And I can go back overseas, apply tier 2 visa, then come back here and start the job on tier 2?

You don't need to have the tier 5 cancelled. Just apply for the tier 2 visa and use that to re-enter the UK..

Thanks Greenie. In that case, will I be able to apply for the Tier 2 inside UK? or would that be considered as switching?

and just to clarify, even if my Tier 5 is still valid, I can apply for tier 2 overseas? I don't have to wait for my tier 5 to expire first? Thanks

No you can only apply from outside. You don't need to wait for you tier 5 to expire.

Thanks, I was starting to get worried. Given what I'd seen posted on here in other topics, I was fairly confident that we could do it, but we both got pretty worried when the call centre people brick-walled us.
