Points based on Qualification

Post by flamenco » Tue Jan 16, 2007 7:38 am

Hi all,

I have few queries regarding the qualification points. I have a UK accounting qualification as well as an overseas Accounting/Auditing qualification. I want to know if I need to send an equivalency certificate from the UK professional body as well to equate the UK professional qualification to academic level or it is not required since the professional qualification is awarded by a British Professional Accounting Body itself. Furthermore, my overseas professional qualification has been equated by the corresponding UK professional body as equivalent to a UK Post Graduate Diploma. Does Work Permit UK consider a qualification equivalent to a UK Post Graduate Diploma for the award of at least 30 points since a UK PGD is higher than a UK bachelor degree but lower than a UK masters degree? Please if any1 can advise on these issues?

Can anybody please advise me on this issue? My application has been rejected due to a scanned signature on the equivalency certificate provided by ACCA UK. I supplied to equivalency certificates from ACCA & Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) UK respectively. The certificate provided by IIA UK states that my CIA qualification is equivalent to a UK Post Graduate Diploma whereas the equivalency certificate provided by ACCA states that the ACCA is equivalent to a UK masters degree. Unfortunately the ACCA certificate included a scanned signature on the basis of which the H.O refused the application. My question is that since ACCA is a British qualification itself and it is mentioned in the previous Case Workers Manual that they consider ACCA equivalent to a UK master degree, why H.O needs an equivalence letter for ACCA anyway? Furthermore, if they were not happy with the scanned signatures on the ACCA letter, why didn't they consider the IIA letter which says that my CIA qualification is equivalent to a UK Post Graduate Diploma? I have requested ACCA to provide me another letter with original signature which they sent me in post. However, I can't send this letter to H.O unless I go for a fresh HSMP application. Please advise as to what should I do?

I have got two emails from H.O from two different persons advising me the equivalency status of my professional qualifications. Both are contradictory with each other. One is saying that my PG Diploma could be equivalent to a UK Masters degree whereas in view of the other person it is just equivalent to a UK Bachelors degree. Here is what they said:-

Thank you for your e-mail.

I can confirm that any professional qualification submitted to us must
have it's equivalency to any academic qualification confirmed by the
awarding association or relevant professional body or association.

With regards to your post graduate diploma, if it was taken after your
Bachelors degree then I believe it should be equivalent to a Masters,
however, if it was an academic course, I would recommend that you check
with the National Recognition Information Centre (NARIC)
(www.naric.org.uk) as they will be able to confirm exactly what your
post graduate diploma is the equivalent to.

I hope this is helpful.

The other one says:-

Dear Applicant

Thank you for your enquiry. It is most likely that your PG Diploma may
only be equal to a bachelors degree. You can also check with NARIC on
their website.

Now my question is if my professional qualification as they now admit is equivalent to a UK masters or for that matter even a Bachelor level, why wasn't I given any points against my qualification? 30 points against my qualification were all that I needed to qualify for HSMP.
