Marrying in the US, Living in the UK. UK and US citizens.

Post by captain_funk » Mon Jan 08, 2007 11:18 pm

I proposed to my American 'Missus' in November when she was over here (the UK) for a 3 month non-visa (VWP) visit....she said yes ;o)

We have been together since December 2005 and have visited each other several times for a few weeks at a time since then. Neither of us have any criminal convictions or anything of the like. (Completely clean slates!)
We are very much in love and now ready to be together.

We intend to for myself to travel to the USA (on the VWP) and we will be married there.
From there we will be having a short honeymoon and then we will be travelling to the nearest consulate that can issue a spousal visa for her.

We are filling out the visa application and arranging an interview when I arrive in the US.
I am going to be in the US for a total of three weeks.

I have a few questions that I would like some help with if possible so that I can relax a bit (I worry about things too much!)

1. Would there be enough time for the consulate to recieve my online application and arrange the interview if I sent the application and payment on first week of my arrival? (with the interview being in the last week of the trip)

2. The documentation:
I know that I need to provide my passport, birth certificate, bank statements, letter from my employer and the like.
I still live at home with my parents but we intend to move out and get a place together when she gets a job.
My question is, what evidence would I need to provide from my parents stating that she is welcome to reside in their household and that they will support her until she gets a job and moves out?
Simply a letter and rental agreement?

3. What other supporting documents are also handy to have?

4. My parents and her parents are willing to support her when she gets here. (so we can get started, she can get work and we can move out etc)
Is this frowned upon by The HO/Immigration or is this just as accepted as someone who owns their own property/is renting?

5. When/If her spouse visa is approved, is she able to travel to the UK from that exact day or is there a delay of a few days or so?
Will she also get grilled at the airport by immigration even if she has that spousal visa?

Many thanks for any help in advance!

I just can't wait to get married now and be together with my fiancee! (soon to be wife)

This is my first post but I assure you that when I get through all of this I will be here to help some people out that are in the current situation I am in!

Again, Thanks! :D

Hello,

I am in a very similar position to yourself....UK citizen my fiancee is a
US citizen...

we had heard that it was possible for me to go to the US on the VWP and
get married over there but from what I have been able to find out its a big
no-no....is this right.

If we can do that it will make things so much easier and quicker for us....

....like you we just want to be together.

Any advice would be very welcome...sorry to intrude on your post :)

If you go to the US and tell the immigration officer you are going to get married to a US citizen, and you don't have a fiance visa, they will most likely send you back...
