Brit marrying British Green Card Holder

Post by mattgrange » Thu Jan 25, 2007 8:29 pm

Hi, I am currently in the UK and am a British Citizen, the only US visa I have is a B1-B2. My Fiance is currently in the US, she is a Green Card holder (British citizen).

Were we to marry, would I be entitled to a green card / visa?

what would be the best way to do this?

Any advice much appreciated!

Your best bet is probably to wait until she becomes a US citizen, then apply for an immigrant visa or a K1/K3 visa. Spouses of permanent residents can apply to immigrate under the so-called Family-Sponsored Preference system. However, it takes a very long time for the application to get processed. Last year processing times for preference 2A (spouse of green card holder) was about four years. See here.
