X-Ray / medical checkup report required during entry into UK

Post by bodyguard » Thu Jan 25, 2007 8:14 am

Hi There,

I had gone to UK on work permit in the past (2005). That time, during the immigration in UK, they had asked for X-Ray reports from all work permit holders and students. As, I didn't have it, so we had to wait for 3 hrs just for getting the chest X-Ray taken (for TB).

Although, they didn't ask for any other medical report beside X-Ray report during that time, what is the procedure now? Do they still require X-Ray report and medical checkup report during entry into the UK?

If one has to take dependants, then do all the dependants have to carry Xray and medical checkup reports?

Yup, it is still a requirement. My wife and I entered in December, and we also didn't have the chest X-rays handy. So we went through Heathrow's clinic, got it all processed in under 15 minutes for the both of us (to be fair, we were the only ones there the morning), and through immigration (again).

Thanks a lot for the information.

Can you share your experience at the immigration counter (like what all do they ask)?

Do they ask for any medical checkup reports besides chest XRay report?

It was actually very straightforward and simple; the immigration officer was friendly enough and only looked at our passports (never asked for any of the HSMP docs or any other proofs). He asked a few basic questions like "what's the HSMP about?" -- I believe this was to do just a spot check about the requirements like degree, income, etc. -- but it was rather informal; my wife thought he was joking, in fact.

He then filled out a small form to say we need to do an X-Ray chest examination, and pointed us to the clinic. At the clinic we were served promptly by friendly staff. As I said, we were through in minutes. We only supplied our address in the UK (I guess so they can try and track outbreaks? We also received a welcome letter from the NHS to this address.) After that, we were pointed to a fast-track counter at the immigration where they checked that our chest exam was done, and then our passports were stamped. And that was that.
