health checks

Post by louisax » Thu Dec 21, 2006 6:59 pm

Hi there people,

I have applied for a working holiday visa to Australia, and as I want to work as a nurse, I have had to undergo health checks. I've just had the news that my file has got to be sent to Oz to be checked due to the fact that I have asthma. I am worried sick! Never dreamed asthma would be a problem! Now I'm extremely worried, because I had an attack this year, because I lost my inhaler and panicked. I ended up going to A & E and having to have a nebuliser. I was discharged after an hour and allowed home. My asthma is normally well controlled - haven't had problems for years, other than this one occasion. I am now frightened that my visa will be refused because of this. They may think it's not well managed if I ended up having hospital treatment for it this year! - I arrive in Oz 27th Jan!!!! High Commission have said asthma generally is nothing to worry about, and they don't THINK it'll be a problem. It isn't on the list of conditions that generally cause concern for immigration purposes (I'm only asking for a year!) but I'm still not happy. Especially as I leave in 4 days for Thailand and intended to go to Oz straight from there!

Can anybody give me any reassurance or information on this? The guy at immigration said he has never heard of anyone being refused a visa because of asthma, but my view is: there's a first time for everything!!

Would really appreciate any info. Many Thanks

Louisa x :?

Dear louisax,
You must report any physical or mental condition that may require special attention in writing at the time of applying for Visa.. All Society trips require walking on the trains/ships and during tours. You must know,if you have asthma, you can use a cane or wheelchair. This allows you to plan for your needs if it is possible to do so. On some tours, it will not be possible. Most rail programs, many of them on antique trains with narrow corridors, are not wheelchair-accessible; some tours are not suitable for people with certain heart or lung conditions because of altitude. And don't forget to
Order Advair.Don't worry, your visa will not be cancelled for asthma :D

Yeah I have never heard that the Visa application process becomes a problem if the person has a problem like asthma. It may be a problem if the person concerned is dealing with an infectious disease as by that way there are chances of contaminating the disease to others as well. So you can be rest assured here, as asthma isnt such a problem.
