I have been silently watching this forum for the past few months.
I would like to share my timeline here.
Application form used for ILR: SET (O) (Main Applicant + 3 Dependents; 2 years HSMP + 3 Years Tier 1 General)
Date application received at UKBA: 18-07-2012
Acknowledgement letter received: during the week 06/08/12 - 12/08/12
Biometrics submitted: 22/09/2012 (Invitation letter received 2 days before this date)
Passports, docs and BRP received: 04/12/2012

I meant that I got a letter to register the Biometric. I was bit confused with Biometric, BPR and BRP... So please correct the time line for me (ta1130).

So still waiting for my settlement visa issued. I wish +3 dependents got priority, though, I guess that just HSMP guys may have more priority.

Sorry for the wrong input...Its still puzzle how UKBA is processing the applications...Good to see that they are processing even July applications...I pray you get priority as I thought earlier...

I have applied ILR on the basis of Long Residency on 4 July 2012, Biometric letter received and provided on 29 August 2012.

Its the 6th month started today still no news, christmas is coming and I am afraid that HO will slow down as we come closer to the christmas.

I think the period from 15 Dec 2012 until 1 Jan 2013 will add further injury to the misery.

Today, 5 Dec 2012, I called HO's standard phone number: 0870 606 7766, came across a very unfriendly and unhelpful lady who was not even in a mood to talk to me...!!!!!replied, "haven't you[me:(] listened to the automated answer at the option of progress of an outstanding application?
I replied, yes I did but 6 months is a not guarantee that my application will be dealt with."
agent: its not.
me:but according to the freedom of information act 2000, the HO information team states that the average processing time for SET(O) postal application received between 23 and 29 Jan 2012, was 34 calender days!!!!!!!(how correct is this information?, I really doubt it...., so what is the current average time?
agent: I don't know(if she doesn't know, what is she doing at the HO information desk????)
me: what information will you provide me once 6 months have passed?
agent: O, we'll look into your application(these so called advisor's have no way of checking any application pending at the HO, apart from that they are still under process, which the applicant knows too).
She insisted that I should call back once 6 months are passed.

Any one in the similar situation who have applied in July 2012 (before 9 July 2012)?

Just a quick update of mine, if you've not read my previous post, I will briefly explain it now. Basically my husband applied on 28th June, not heard anything from HO until end of Oct which they've sent the approval letter & all supporting document back to him (without having a biometric enrolment at all) with us not knowing about the procedure , we waited 3 weeks for the biometric permit to arrive until realising everyone's post here that a biometric was needed in every application) the worst thing was we have booked a flight to go away in Jan 2013. Rang HO helpline, the gentlemen I spoken to was very good & kind, advices me to fax a letter to liverpool HO to enquire about what's happening, but no replied at all for a week. Rang again the second week, a horrible lady answered the phone & said to me the application is still awaiting for decision & it wasn't over the 6 months yet, so asked me to wait!! As time getting closer to December & I was loosing our hope, home office has sent us back my husband's application form & said he hasn't signed the section for biometric. So I got him to sign it straight away & send it back with specially delivery, and all these time we were waiting we got so worried as Xmas was getting closer by. Another week has gone, didn't hear anything from them so rang helpline again last Wednesday was lucky to have a nice lady answered the phone, I explained to her how upset & worry we were, she was very reassuring & even said to me it was the HO error haven't even noticed sooner that the application form hasn't been completed but has approved his case. Then she checked on the system & said a biometric letter was sent out to him the day before, so we should get in anytime, she even advised us to get it done ASAP & send liverpool another fax letter to inform them once it has been done & request them to prioritise making the BRP, last thursday we did received the letter & had the biometric done on the same day, sent them a fax straight after. We were gonna give them 2 weeks, if done hear from them we will ring, but the card has finally arrived today. Hurray!!!!! It was like my Xmas has came early & it will be the best Xmas present ever!!! HO is actually really good & would listen, for those still awaiting, I really wish you all the best of luck & make sure you keep on praying. Thanks to everyone for posting so much information here, otherwise I will probably still awaiting for the BRP to arrive at this time without noticing HO has made a minor mistake with my husbands application. acknedgment of application dated 26 oct 2012 received 1 Nov 2012.
BIO letter dated 22 Nov 2012, received 26 Nov 12.

my wife applied for SET (M) through settlement checking service on 23 oct 2012.
money withdrawn on 26 october 2012 from debit card.
acknedgment of application dated 26 oct 2012 received 1 Nov 2012.
BIO letter dated 22 Nov 2012, received 26 Nov 12.
Biometrics taken on 27 November 2012.

Hi Tasawar,

Call your local council and ask for Settlement Checking Service, its a way of applying(your application to the HO) through your local council. They will check all your documents, and will advise about the validity of the application.

But my advise is pay a little extra and have it done via premium serivce, it's a peace of mind and hopefully your application will be approved within 4 hours of getting into the HO(depending on you fullfill all immigration requirements).

They check if your application is valid, is the form completed correctly and they copy all the documents including passports so documents are sent to the UKBA for a fee of £85.00.

we wanted to go through premium but taking into account that it was very difficult to book an appointment soon we decided to go this way. we are not planing anything for next 6 months so better to keep almost £400

I have applied ILR on the basis of Long Residency on 4 July 2012, Biometric letter received and provided on 29 August 2012.

Its the 6th month started today still no news, christmas is coming and I am afraid that HO will slow down as we come closer to the christmas.

I think the period from 15 Dec 2012 until 1 Jan 2013 will add further injury to the misery.

Today, 5 Dec 2012, I called HO's standard phone number: 0870 606 7766, came across a very unfriendly and unhelpful lady who was not even in a mood to talk to me...!!!!!replied, "haven't you[me:(] listened to the automated answer at the option of progress of an outstanding application?
I replied, yes I did but 6 months is a not guarantee that my application will be dealt with."
agent: its not.
me:but according to the freedom of information act 2000, the HO information team states that the average processing time for SET(O) postal application received between 23 and 29 Jan 2012, was 34 calender days!!!!!!!(how correct is this information?, I really doubt it...., so what is the current average time?
agent: I don't know(if she doesn't know, what is she doing at the HO information desk????)
me: what information will you provide me once 6 months have passed?
agent: O, we'll look into your application(these so called advisor's have no way of checking any application pending at the HO, apart from that they are still under process, which the applicant knows too).
She insisted that I should call back once 6 months are passed.

Any one in the similar situation who have applied in July 2012 (before 9 July 2012)?

I applied on the 2nd of July 2012 and I received the receipt on the 7th of July dated the 05/07/12. After than I was just waiting as it seems to be the game. A month after I moved house, I changed my address online. To my surprise they sent biometric invites for my two dependents to the old address, without mine. That's when I got to call UKBA why this has been the case and why my correspondence address was still the one that I changed. Anyway the lady I spoke to was kind enough to send through another biometric invitation letter and asked me to change (again) my address online of which I kindly obliged. My biometric invite came to my new address. However a few weeks later I called again to confirm that they have my correct address which they had, yey! Since then I have just been waiting like everyone else, chasing up whilst you have already done your biometrics doesn't help unless the six months have elapsed. I am keeping my fingers crossed as I have seen that some people have already started receiving their responses.

I am planning to call them again on the 17th of December as 24 weeks will have elapsed since my application. Hopefully I will have received it by then, it doesn't hurt to be optimistic but helps to keep one going, and yes my application has passed its fifth month hitting the six month mark on the 2nd Jan 13.

There is no way of checking the progress of any application sent through postal route. While ripping their customers(we are treated as customers not applicants by the HO) off by extremely high cost of each application fee to cover their future costs(cost of the application plus to generate future revenue for the HO). They should introduce online tracking of an application sent by post.

Where this won't remove complete frustration as each time for months applicants will see the status: In progress(sitting in the corner of case worker's room full of files). But atleast this will provide immediate information to the applicants whether a decision has been made on their application or not(an email reminder would benefit alot).

Secondly sending electronic form of communication(any correspondence from the case worker, Bio invitations etc) will cut alot of time which is wasted while sending the same information via post(saves paper too).

I agree with what you have said, but I think that they fear uproar from applicants as soon as the six month time period is hit. It would expose the fact that more than 40% of applications are being decided after the stated 6 months period.

The funny thing is it takes them less than 2 weeks to take our "hard earned cash" and takes more than ten times the time to process the applications. Its painful the more you think of it. It would have been better if they took the money once they have reached a decision that way it would be a justified reason and it will make them work faster for more cash inflow. Its just like paying workers before they start work, they wont care about the quality of work, time or scope because they would be having fat pockets already..... Food for thought!!!
