HSMP Earnings Question

Post by hsmp_distressed » Wed Feb 07, 2007 10:35 am

Hello Everyone,
I have 2 questions on HSMP which I think you guys might be of help:
1. My age gives me 20 pts and education 35 points. Salarywise I have just moved to the 20 pts category a month back. Am I still eligible for HSMP? Or is it only after 12 full months of the current salary which makes me HSMP eligible may I apply?

2. My bachelor's and master's in engineering are both done in English. Do I STILL HAVE TO submit the authorized letter from the institution that the degree course was taught in English? The university's website and all other details are in the public domain -- not sure if the university staff will entertain me on such a request.

Does anyone have had similar problems? Please help a poor soul.

Hi,

The answers to your concerns are as follows,

1. Earnings - The points you earn for earnings NEED to be for previous 12 months...So if you have moved into the 20 point bracket in Jan 07 then you need to earn the same amount until Dec 07 in order to claim 20 points.

2. English language - The rules on English Language are fairly clear. Irrespective of your education/institution you'd still need a certificate stating your medium of instruction was English. Even if you're an English Literature Graduate from Harvard  You might also want to consider appearing for IELTS in order to have a solid proof for English language requirement.

Hello hsmp_distressed,

I believe that in order to demonstrate that you have 20 points from your earnings: you need to add up the Total Gross salaries that you have earned during the 12 month period you are using(within the last 15 month period from your application)

take that Sum and convert it to Sterling Pounds (with the current exchange rate) and match that with your country band. See how many points you get.

There is no where on the Guidance notes that says that every month needs to be consistent with the band and points - always reference is to the amount earned during the 12 month

all the best...

This is my understanding as well.

One note though: The customer service agents on the HSMP helpline told me that to convert non-GBP salaries they use the rate prevalent on the date of the last paycheck submitted by the applicant. She also recommeneded me the site oanda.com for the same.

I have a question on this -- Is a written certificate a MUST [It will complicate my already complicated life] or something like a printout of a mail from a college authority certifying that the degree taught in English the way to go?

well a printout wouldnt be of much help ......

its required to provide the letter stating that your degree was taught in English on the Official letterhead of your university as well as your college ......

If you provide just a printout from the website , it wouldnt be considered

Hope this helps ... :-)
