Will there be problems

Post by kotum45 » Sat Feb 17, 2007 1:11 am

I applied for a visa to go to Sweden an got a single entry visa for the duration of my visit. However my plans have now changed and I need to go to Amsterdam first and may not go to sweden.
Would there be a problem in Amsterdam? I am going from London.

So let's get this right, you have a Swedish-issued Schengen visa? That is totally logical if Sweden is going to be your main destination in the Schengen area. But that does not stop you entering the Schengen area at another point, and then travelling on to Sweden.

So I don't envisage a problem. Once inside "Schengenland" there are no immigration controls as such ..... so for example ... you are going to be taking a flight from Amsterdam to Stockholm .... whilst photo ID (probably your passport) will need to be shown to check in at the airport .... there will be no immigration checks, either on leaving Amsterdam nor on arriving in Stockholm.

Given the way the Schengen area works, far better to think in terms of :-
Now I got a swedish-issued schengen visa but I am going to holland with it.
I do not envisage that you will have a problem, especially as, no doubt, you will have flight tickets confirming that you will be travelling on to Sweden.

A Schengen visa permits travel to all Schengen countries. Where to apply? You should apply to the country which is the main destination, and if there is no main destination, then you should apply to the first country you will enter. Implied in all that is that someone might enter "Schengenland" in the country that is not the main destination, but that is fine.

Someone else ... not you .... a couple of weeks driving around Germany ... but they enter "Schengenland" in France, and then proceed to drive across France to get to Germany. Same principle on the way back. Less than 2 days in France .... 14 days in Germany .... application should be made to Germany .. even though France being entered first.
