Coming to the UK to look for a job

Post by sashi » Sun Mar 28, 2004 3:21 am

Hi Guyz,
Just wondering how many of u out there actually going to go to the UK to find a job (as opposed to looking for a job from your country of origin)

I have tried rather unsuccessfully until now to look for a job from Malaysia (I just got HSMP approval, but have been trying for a month or so as I was approved for a working holidaymaker visa)

I spoke to my director who is Irish and he says that it is foolish to give up my academic career in Malaysia to look for greener pastures across the fence. I am a bit nervous as well, but at 25 and with no committments at the moment, I think this is the best time to be adventurous.

I am looking for a graduate level engineering position. And am thinking of coming to the UK to begin searching in earnest.

Does anyone have any comments? Any positive experience? Please share.

Cheers

Sashi..

You just have to take a leap of faith.

It is very unlikely that you will get a lecturing post without a PhD as the UK is 'awash' with so many PhD graduates chasing few jobs.

Your best option would be to join a company of Electrical Engineers (I remember this is your field - correct me if I am wrong?)..

Generally, there is a high skills shortage in almost all Engineering disciplines as the Brits dont like taking the so called 'tough' subjects at University
Where there is a will there is a way.

yeah, think that cant really xpect lecturing position. Thinking more in lines of communications and electrical engineering.
OK, getting ready to make the leap of a lifetime!

Thnx again
