Need info on travel insurance for French Schengen Visa

Post by chandnip » Fri Mar 02, 2007 1:04 pm

Hi
Can anyone tell me where to get a good annual multitrip travel insurance for a couple which will be recognised by the French consulate for Schengen visa.

Also most of the insurance companies have stated that the applicant should have stayed in UK for more that 6 months before applying for the travel insurance. But I have completed only 2 and half months here.SO I am not eligible for the insurance cover .Please help me for the same.

I need details of any travel insurance company which doesnt put such conditions on the applicant. My husband has been in Uk for more than 6 months but the problem is with me.
Also repatriation cover is also required for Schengen visa
thanx in advance

I also had the same problem to visit Switzerland. Then i got the travel insurance given by the Post Office. Visit any Post Office in UK, nearest to your residence and you should be able to get the insurance. They may ask for your work permit paper and it's validity.

I got annual European multi-trip insurance for my husband and I through atlas direct last year - you need to have been resident in the UK for 3 months or more, if you do not meet this requirement you will still be eligible for insurance cover if you are registered with a UK GP.

Seemed to have very good deals, cover included repatriation, and you can travel as many times as you like within the year up to a maximum of 31 days at a time for £45.

I bought it online at:

I also applied for a European Health Insurance Card for both me and my spouse. These are available to anyone who is normally resident in the UK and entitles the holder to state-controlled medical treatment within the EEA. When my husband applied for his French Shengen Visa he was asked if he had an EHIC card. They are free and can be applied for online by following the link below:
